Vegetative Summer - 9:19 a.m.
I have encountered a typical summer problem. Actually, it's one that happens every summer, but I've never noticed its true atrophy until this year. It actually has more to do with Newton's Laws of Motion than anything else; everything else attaches to it.
Objects that are in motion tend to remain in motion unless acted on by another force.
The opposite (Objects at rest remain at rest unless acted on by another force) is also true. The force in this case is, ironically, summer--or rather, the end of school. I gave my speech and threw the mortarboard in the air, but after that I grew into a more and more vegetative state... according to Mum. Of course, she doesn't consider writing, reading, and renovating websites to be productive.
Ever since the force came into action, I had nothing to structure my days around. Maybe this is why writing novels in the summer is a bad idea. I have the ideas; I have the time. However, I'm writing in my home, which makes the line between "writing time" and "everything else time" a very fine line indeed.
It's the same thing with writing all those thank-you notes. I finally got started on those last night, even though Mum has been bugging me on those since I started receiving stuff. But when you have all day to do it, you keep saying, "I'll do it later." Eight hours and forty "I'll do it later"s later, Mum is home, dinner is on the stove, it smells really good, and you haven't written a single note.
I've reached the point in the summer where washing my face and getting dressed is a rather productive day. Sad, huh?
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get dressed. Maybe this day will be productive after all.
To Do:
1. Thank-you notes!
2. Reading program at church--starts Sunday
3. French summer seminar!
