Carpal Tunnel Risk Post-Exams? - 8:01 p.m.
I have neglected writing for fun so much lately. Luckily, though, I have only three more days of classes, followed by final exams, followed by my senior presentation, followed by sheer freedom.
After the senior presentation I'll be writing so much that I'll be at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome. I think I'm already at risk for that, though. Think about the track record: journaler (both online and paper!), copious note-taker, three-time Nanowrimo winner... I think that's spelling a nice case of carpal tunnel one day in the future, so I'm trying to take care of my wrists now. For instance, I have a pair of wrist braces to break out when soreness attacks (which is usually during Nanowrimo, but I'll break them out during other times of the year, too). They're not a matching pair, but they're both black, and I have one for the right hand and one that can go either way, so I guess that counts as a pair. Those are definitely going to college with me.
Of course, carpal tunnel sort of runs in my family, even though I think I'm the first novelist that the family has had to deal with. Uncle Pat (my dad's brother) had it (he works with his hands a lot--I'm not sure exactly what he does), and he had to have surgery in order to fix it. My dad also has it and was supposed to have the surgery at some point. Can you say "family history"? This, though, is coming from people who scorn when I tell them I want to be a writer.
Bad wrists or not, though, I will make it. After all, I have a muse of ... What's the hardest metal? I told you science isn't my strong point.
